About Heather MacLellan
A little writing life, creativity, entrepreneurship, publishing, traveling, and fun. I'm glad you're here!
I've been writing my whole life. Writing is how I process the world, how I make sense of experiences, and how I've always expressed what matters most to me. It has been an important part of everything I've done from running my own business to teaching to creating programs for others, to teach to research to writing romance novels to the stories I send out in the mail every month to a small group of people who love smutty romance and fiction as much as I do.
My first published book came in 2017. Since then, eleven more have followed. Seven romance novels, including two complete trilogies, and five non-fiction titles covering weight loss, business, creativity and self-discovery. I write across genres because I live across experiences, and I've learned that the best writing always comes from a life being fully lived.
I'm a mom, a lover of fast cars, camping, new adventures, putting myself out there and curling up with a good book. I've done a lot of amazing things in my life, but writing remains the thread that ties them together.

I've always loved to learn. While I've learned a lot from others, I've learned the most about myself through writing. I've been educating adults in one form or another for most of my career: in the military, in community literacy programs, in colleges, and eventually through my own business, which started as a freelance writing business. Go figure!
In 2022, I drove across the country alone — six weeks, 16,000 kilometers, more camping spots than I can count. You don't take a trip like that without it changing a thing or two about your life and as expected, I came home knowing it was time for a change. That trip showed me what spending my time doing the things I wanted to do could really be like and when I got home, I focused more on writing, publishing my first romance trilogy and doubling down on my consulting business to write training for other organizations.
If I'm not writing a book, I'm writing something, somewhere, for someone.

You'd find three things in my backpack if you picked it up on any given day: my laptop, my current read, and my journal. Whether I'm travelling for business or pleasure, my trusty (and maybe a little rusty) backpack has seen it all. My favourite writing experience happened in 2018 when I was checking out of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Waiting on a red eye off the strip, I sat in the food court of the hotel working on a freelance writing client project. And, wouldn't you know it: my laptop battery was dying. The funny thing about casinos in Las Vegas is they don't want you to hang around unless you're putting money in the slot machines so there's nowhere to just hang out, except the food court. It turns out, the hotel doesn't want you to stay there too long either because there were no outlets for me to charge my laptop. I ran around the casino looking for an outlet, having already checked out of my hotel. I found one. In the women's restroom. I love to travel and work and write while I travel. It's not always glamorous but it certainly makes for a funny story. And who doesn't love a funny story?
